The Princess and the Packet of Frozen Peas

My fifth picture book comes out this week in both Australia and the UK. It’s called The Princess and the Packet of Frozen Peas, it’s brilliantly illustrated by Sue deGennaro, and it’s a sideways take on the Hans Christian Anderson classic.

A few years ago, I was thinking about the princess in The Princess and the Pea and decided that with all that sensitivity to a tiny pea under twenty mattresses, it was likely she was something of whiner. In this story, Prince Henrik is the brother of the prince in the original. Henrik likes hockey and camping, and after spending time around his brother’s bride, wants to marry someone altogether different.

Enter Pippa — who also likes hockey and camping.

There’s a review of the book here.
