The Community Cup has been run and won, with the Rockdogs proving far too good for the Megahertz. Given the scoreboard attendants were at one point reduced to using ‘Es’ as ‘3s’, we can’t completely trust their reliability, but the record books say Rockdogs 11.9 (75) to the Megahertz 6.7 (43).

We were beaten fair and square. It’s hard to know where to lay the blame. And so, after much deliberation, I’ve decided to blame Evo - for taking too long with his pre-match speech and causing our perfectly warmed up limbs to cool down at a crucial time, contributing to our slow start. It also made it a very cold pre-match for the bikini clad Town Bike who was nobly flag bearing during Bob Log III’s rendition of the National Anthem.

For the Megahertz, it’s now rebuilding time as Team of the Decade fortysomethings such as inspiration skipper JVG and stalwart half forward David Bridie pass on the baton to up and coming players in their late thirties.

My own game was forgettable. Ten minutes into the first quarter, I ran back with the flight of the ball and strained my hamstring. Game over. A few minutes earlier, Megahertz team of the Decade back pocket Sam Pang collapsed in a strong Jason Evans tackle and sprained his ankle. He courageously returned to the ground, ostensibly to network with rock stars with whom he might one day wish to record.
