For four years, I’ve been a part of the Breakfasters on Triple R (102.7 FM). Triple R is a jewel in the Melbourne cultural landscape, supported by more than 10,000 subscribers who put up their hard-earned to ensure there’s at least one station on the air that’s not giving away mobile phones.

Please join us for the Breakfasters Outside Broadcast at Fitzroy Bowls Club on Friday 15th December. 6-9am. Coffee from Gravity and prizes from Catherine Manuell Design, Shock Records, Crumpler and Mannys. The Fitzroy & Victoria Bowling Club, 578 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy North.

Sam Pang asked listeners to call in with stories of famous actors who passed on or just missed out on an iconic role. A caller told us that Patrick Swayze was not the studio’s first man to screen test alongside Demi Moore in ‘Ghost’. The star who turned them down? None other than our own Paul Hogan, then at the peak of his powers.

Here is an artist’s impression of what could have been.

The dialogue might not have been exactly the same.

Demi: ‘I love you … ‘

Hoges: ‘Dingo.’

Whoopi: ‘Dingo? What did you say ‘dingo’ for? She says she loves you?’

Hoges: ‘Dingo.’

Whoopi: For some reason he keeps saying ‘Dingo’.
